Explorations of Possible Connections between Quantum Physics and Consciousness

Ever since the beginnings of quantum theory, there has been an intuition that somehow the mystery of quantum physics and the mystery of consciousness are somehow related. For the last few years, I have investigated a number of these kind of hypotheses and developed some ideas myself. Since in 2017 we celebrate the 100th birthday of David Bohm, in my talk I will focus in particular on his proposal, which I find very promising and exciting

Shortbio

Dr. phil. Nikolaus von Stillfried (* 1978) studied Biology and Neurosciences at the universities of Munich and Cambridge. He earned his PhD in Cultural Sciences at the university of Frankfurt/Oder with a theoretical and empirical study on the generalizability of quantum theory and the limits of experimental methodology in consciousness studies. He is currently completing his Post-Doc (Habilitation) project in philosophy on connections between consciousness and quantum physics. He says: “One of the biggest fascinations and miracles for me is the fact that we are conscious. Hence I have spent a lot of time exploring consciousness introspectively and experientially, and thinking about consciousness scientifically and philosophically. Starting out with university studies in neuroscience I have over time moved more and more into philosophy, where I am now just about to complete my habilitation.”
